Community-centered programmes that use storytelling, performing arts, digital media, and sport to transform the lives of refugee and host-community youth in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
Every Stage is a Platform for Change
Creative arts provide safe spaces where young people develop confidence, express themselves, and engage communities on important social issues. From community theatre to the Kakuma Laugh Industry comedy platform, SME nurtures performing talent and uses the stage to spark dialogue on peacebuilding, protection and social cohesion.
Every Story Deserves to Be Told Well
SME empowers young people with photography, videography, journalism and social media skills while documenting positive stories from Kakuma and Kalobeyei. Trained youth produce documentaries, podcasts and digital content that reshape the narrative around refugee communities.
Every Voice Deserves to Be Heard
Refugee Teens Talk is SME's flagship protection programme, supporting adolescent girls, young mothers and vulnerable youth. It combines menstrual hygiene management, sexual and reproductive health education, GBV prevention, school reintegration support, and referral pathways for survivors.
Every Brushstroke Builds Confidence
The Art & Creative Learning programme nurtures creativity in children aged 5–15 through drawing, painting and community murals. Art is used as a tool for education, healing, and raising awareness — giving children a safe outlet for expression and imagination.
Every Woman Deserves Dignity
The Health Beyond Fistula Initiative promotes women's health, dignity and access to essential reproductive health information. Through community awareness campaigns and hygiene supply distribution, SME creates referral pathways for women affected by fistula and other reproductive health conditions.
Every Match Builds a Bridge
Sport is utilised as a powerful tool for social inclusion, safeguarding, peacebuilding, psychosocial support, and youth leadership. SME organises community sports leagues, peacebuilding tournaments and disability-inclusive sports that bring refugee and host-community youth together.
